** Image Page Wizard **
***********************
Version 1.5
This utility has been created for webmasters everywhere to create pages
with the images contained in a folder/directory.
I originally developed it to display pictures I downloaded from the
Internet and help me choose some of these to be used on the ScreenSaver
Directory.
I have made it available for people who have large numbers of images and
would like to see them on a single page.
I have not done a lot of testing on it, so I recommend only using it if
you are confident that it won't do anything to your computer. There is
actually nothing inside that writes to the registry, and the only time
it will write to the hard drive is to create the images page.
It is available for free, but if you are going to distribute any pages
created by the program, I would like you to keep the small notice at the
bottom of the page in tact.
Image Page Wizard should work with Windows 95, 98 and NT, although it
has not been tested under the NT environment.
Installation
============
It is important to remove previous versions of Image Page Wizard before
installing this version, especially if the previous version was a BETA
version. Uninstallation can be performed just by deleting the files you
placed in a folder and deleting icons which you created.
If you have downloaded the .exe version of Image Page Wizard, just run
the file and follow the on-screen instructions. If you downloaded the
.zip version, extract all the files in the archive to the folder you
would like it installed.
To set up shortcuts, run Image Page Wizard and click on Technical
Support Wizard. In the Technical Support Wizard, click on Install and
the install module will start. The install module will allow you to
create shortcuts in various places on your computer.
How to use it
=============
To start Image Page Wizard, click on Start Menu and Run...
Type in "C:\Program Files\Image Page Wizard\imgpage.exe", altering the
path if you installed to a different folder/drive. I would recommend
when running Image Page Wizard for the first time, to follow the
instructions in the Installation section above to create shortcuts for
Image Page Wizard.
You just type in the folder which contains the images or browse for it
using the Browse button and then click OK!
File Types and Support
======================
Image Page Wizard currently only recognises BMP, GIF, JPEG, WMF and DIB
files. I will add support for other file types on request, after
testing. To request types, check the table below to check whether the
type has been tested. If the file type is not on the list, e-mail me
with the type, and a small small sample image in that type, which is
up to 50 KB in size.
File Types tested in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 and Netscape
Navigator 4.5.
(An "X" in the column represents direct support.)
| Netscape 4.5 | Microsoft
-----+--------------+-----------
BMP | | X
-----+--------------+-----------
GIF | X | X
-----+--------------+-----------
JPEG | X | X
-----+--------------+-----------
TIF | (Plugin?)
-----+--------------+-----------
WMF | (Plugin?) | X
-----+--------------+-----------
PCX | (Plugin?)
-----+--------------+-----------
DIB | Plugin Reqd. | X
-----+--------------+-----------
Due to the integration of Microsoft Internet Explorer with the Windows
Operating System and other applications, I can not be 100% sure
that your version will read the same file types as I have.
KEY:
Plugin Reqd. There is a plugin available, and the browser downloads
plugin on approval. With plugins, unsupported images may appear as
broken. To view the image, right click on the broken image, select
"View Image" and select "Open" making sure "Open OLE Server in-place"
is also selected. Click on OK. These images may open on it's own page.
(Plugin?) There may be plugins available for browsers to display the
types supported by neither browser, and if you do find any such plugin,
please contact me with the details so I can implement support into
Image Page Wizard.
Advanced Options
================
The first drop-down list in the advanced options panel allows you to
select the name of the HTML file you'd like to create. Available names:
!0images.htm - (Default) This file usually appears as the first file in
a folder listing.
index.htm - This is the type to choose if you are uploading to the
Internet.
*.htm - This option allows you to specify your own file name.
Just enter the name and not the extension. My tests have
shown that file names with spaces are supported.
Uninstalling
============
1) Run Image Page Wizard.
2) Click on Technical Support Wizard.
3) Click on Uninstall.
The uninstall module starts and allows you to delete all the Image Page
Wizard parts. If you want to uninstall certain parts (i.e. You don't
want Start Menu icons), run Install.
To complete the uninstall you must restart Windows. The final file will
be deleted the next time Windows is started, as the uninstaller can not
uninstall files in use.
Known Problems
==============
* Files with spaces are now recognised, but if uploading to the
Internet, images will not show as most servers can not handle file
names with spaces.
* Sometimes, Image Page Wizard may create a HTML page with few or no
images. If this happens, try again a couple of times, and then if Image
Page Wizard still is not creating the correct page, e-mail support.

Planned Changes
===============
* Allow Image Page Wizard to create browser specific documents. As both
Netscape and Microsoft browsers do not agree on displaying the same
images, the ability to create HTML files displaying the files your
browser will understand.
* Renaming of files, if in "index.htm" mode to allow files with spaces
to be uploaded to the Internet. Probably will be replaced with
underscores, or removed.
* Easier updating of supported image types. Currently, the supported
file types are hard-coded into Image Page Wizard. A future version will
have an external file which holds all the file types and supported
browsers.
* Testing of file types in all current versions of Microsoft and
Netscape browsers. I currently have access to Microsoft Internet
Explorer 5.0 and Netscape Navigator 4.5. Future versions will have file
types tested in Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 & above and Netscape
Navigator 2.0 & above.
* Seeing that the two browsers do not agree on file types to use, a
module will be created, allowing you to view files not supported by
your browser. Current Limitations mean that initially only BMP, DIB,
WMF and ICO files will be supported.
* Compatibility with sub-directories. I am developing the product to
start looking into sub-directories and listing files with sub-
directories.
Comments, Suggestions, Annoyances
=================================
Comments, suggestions and annoyances can be e-mailed to me at
"support@screensavers.free-online.co.uk".
If you see anything you would like to see in this program, please do e-
mail me, and, who knows, it may just be integrated into it!
Technical Stuff
===============
If you do get a problem the first thing to do is get the version number
and compile date. This can be done by clicking on About on the dialog.
There is now a technical support wizard which will help you send
descriptive information to me, that will help me solve your problem
quicker. This will be updated over versions, and hopefully will be able
to give you tools to compile the e-mail asking for support.
You should e-mail me at "support@screensavers.free-online.co.uk".
Note that follow up information may be requested if problem can not be
diagnosed instantly.
This program was created in Visual DialogScript 2.5, available at:
